Don’t Forget Navigation, Architecture and the Funnel

I had just posted my blog yesterday stating that I knew what to do next, when I got a blog posting from Scott Frangos. He owns WebFadds and built my blog for me using the WordPress platform. (Extremely cost effective way to get website functionality with built-in content management, by the way).

The post reminded me that navigation, where people enter your site and how you channel them through it, is extremely important. It’s the old direct response adage, “Lead them by the hand to where you want them.” Online marketing, if you haven’t noticed, is much more like direct response than it is advertising or PR.

I don’t want to repeat what Scott wrote, and I can’t improve on it, so check it out for yourself at his online publication WebHelper Magazine. Spend a little time to take a look around. There’s a lot of relevant and useful content for marketers and techies.

So, before I implement my keyphrase changes for my home page, I need to take a step back and think about the navigation, and how I want to funnel prospects through my site, giving them more specific information as they go deeper into the site; and having a call to action to ‘convert’ them. I don’t have the time today. More about conversion tomorrow.
